![]() ![]() Just be sure you store the BoxCryptor password somewhere safe outside the house (e.g., my sister).ġ) If I accidentally delete a file it goes into the trash folder, so no real concern there.Ģ) It is a concern if a file gets corrupted. The cloud copy of my really critical data (e.g., pictures of house content) and memories is available via the cloud. But if the house burns down, it is likely that the USB drive will be useless. I also backup my whole PC twice a year to a USB drive. Note that these cloud drives do provide versioning. Some may not like this approach, but I prefer to backing up every change. It also means I don't backup every change I make, just once a day. I access the BACKUP directory on my PC, which is un-encrypted. Note that I don't directly access this data on OneDrive or Google Drive. It is transparent to me since I access the secure backup via the X drive. The sensitive data is encrypted in the cloud so unauthorized access gives the thief unusable data. and my senstive ones backed up on Microsoft. So my non-sensitive files are backed up on Google. I run a CMD prompt nightly that synchs the SECURE directory with my X drive, and my OTHER directory with Google Drive (using ROBOCOPY command). So everything I copy to the X drive is automatically encrypted everything I copy from the X drive is automatically decrypted. * I use BoxCryptor to create a virtual encrypted drive X over the SECURE directory using OneDrive. * I created a directory BACKUP on my PC, and 2 subdirectories (SECURE, OTHER). I use Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, BoxCryptor (free for personal use), and a simple CMD prompt. once set, there is nothing for me to remember to act on, it simply works. I then have NAS back itself up automatically to an attached USB drive, and regularly (also automatically ) to google drive (in case house burns down). specifically I see Veeam backup (Free for home use) to backup to NAS for all my devices on the network (point in time recovery, full recovery using usb key, partial recovery of specific file/folder, etc). We use NAS (network attach storage) in ours - these things are very cheap (<$200 at entry level), consume zero power, come with support services (qnap, sinology), and all of the integration. Cloud backup is great against major loss scenarios (house burned down) where local backup would not help.ĭo you only have a single computer in your household? if yes, do you think it would continue to be that way? Two is one, one is none … google drive should not be your only backup method, it should complement other tools you have including local backup. As I recall, they'll restore files for you. You can also pay for Google One for added support. I also use Googles Advanced 2FA authentication using their Titan keys. I appreciate any thoughts on this matter.įor documents you're unsure about, you could zip and encrypt them with 7zip. I never use public computers to log onto my Google account. I even have a funny, non-obvious name for the spreadsheet file, thinking no one would even think that it has anything important in it. My most important doc (spreadsheet in (5) above) does have an extra layer of protection with the password on the file. Google drive has it's level of encryption. Therefore, would be hard to log onto my google account. Security - I use two-factor authentication. This one is my biggest concern.Ħ) Various documents - Wills, other spreadsheets, word documents. ![]() Not sure what could possibly be done with the other info in tax statements.ĥ) Spreadsheet with my whole life on it (passwords, accounts, etc) - This is in an excel spreadsheet that is password protected. ![]() To be honest, I believe I have entered my social security number on enough forms in my life that I really wonder if this any less secure than my number on those forms. Would could someone possible do with such info?Ĥ) Tax statements - Only concern here is my SS#. Here's a list of kind of files I have and thoughts about it.ģ) Vanguard year end statements (pdf file) - I don't think there's a security concern. So, I am curious to how secure my files would be. I really love how easy it is to use Google Drive to backup a single folder on my computer that has everything I want I backed up. I have contemplated encrypting my files before uploading them to Google Drive but would prefer not to have that hassle. ![]() I have read a few past threads on the subject of backing up my files to a cloud and how secure it is. ![]()

![]() ![]() I added elastic shoulder straps to connect the front and back pieces of the vest. ![]() I didn’t try but since the front and back are identical does anyone know if you can just layer two pieces of fabric and do both at the same time? Cut out one more so that you can have two pieces, one for the front and one for the back of the vest. When it’s done you should have a cutout for one half of your vest. The cut had to be paused in order to remove that piece. When I cut mine there was one piece that ended up blowing over onto an area that hadn’t been cut yet. Keep an eye out for any pieces of material that might blow around after they’ve been cut out.Once you have everything set up go ahead and run it. Do whatever you have to do to prepare your laser for use.I also tried using wood instead of cardboard and that worked just as well. I’m not sure if this step is necessary but the cardboard did create an even surface that it made it easy to smooth out any bumps or folds that were in the fabric. It was pretty dirty so I placed a piece of cardboard between the bed and the fabric. The laser had a honeycomb bed (I think that’s what it’s called) inside.I started off by grabbing a pair of scissors and cutting out a rectangle of fabric slightly larger than the cutting area of the laser (20x12).įor this project I used the Full Spectrum H-Series desktop CO2 laser (40w). With the green vest still selected, hold down Shift and click on the circle pattern.Select the smaller vest (green) go to Edit> Duplicate.Delete the original circle pattern (select it and press delete or backspace).Take the pattern and drag it over the vest.Select Update to see what it will look like, and then press OK. Under the Mode Tab, select Brightness Cutoff, Threshold: 0.45. Select the pattern go to Path> Trace Bitmap. The circle pattern needs to be converted from a bitmap image into a vector image. If you have a design/pattern that is not in vector format (like this circle design I created) and you want to use it, you’ll have to convert it.Select the smaller vest (It was red but I colored it green) and go to Path >Object to Path.Make it as thin or as thick as you’d like. Take that box and drag it toward the center to create a margin- this is the area along the outside of the vest where nothing will be cut out. A little box will appear by the upper left corner of the vest outline. In the file there should be a circle pattern and the outline of the vest.Under the Page tab, in the Custom Size area, I changed the units to inches, the width:20, and the height:12. If you want to change the size of the page: I wanted the size of my page in Inkscape to be the same size as the cutting area of the laser I was going to be using.Download and open VestDesign.svg in Inkscape. You’ll also need a pattern that you’d like to use- I provided the pattern I used in my example. It’s a free and open-source vector graphics editor, you can download it here if you don’t have it.
